Philipp Scholl 1825 - 1897

Philip Scholl was born in February 12, 1825 in Graben, Baden, Germany to Christina Scholl and an unknown man according to his birth certificate (see cert. below). Philipp was baptized on the 15th at 1pm.

His grandparents on his mother's side are Wendel Scholl and Maria Katherma born Nuchterin.  After living in Germany, he immigrated to New York where he was a shoemaker.

He married Elizabeth Kelch in 1828 in El Saso, Germany. They had eight children in 16 years. First was Frederick, then Elizabeth, Philip, Christina, Elizabeth, Lydia, George Philip, and Josephine.

In the 1860 census he was a shoemaker.

By 1870 he moved his family to Arago, NE, became a farmer and raised his children in a rural environment mainly populated by immigrant Germans.

He died January 13, 1897 and is buried with his wife in the little cemetery located behind the Zion United Church of Christ, in Falls City, NE.

Zion United Church of Christ, Falls City, NE

Note: this church is very old, with a white exterior and stain glass windows.  The cemetery is located a hundred yards behind the church and is small.
