Fred Martindale Hill 1882 -1949

Fred Martindale Hill, 65 of 271 Twenty-first, a retired railroad car inspector, died at nine p.m. Wednesday in a local hospital after a four-day illness.

Mr. Hill was born July 24, 1882, In Ogden, a son of Henry Albert and Verena Bachman Hill. He attended Ogden schools. For 47 years he was employed by the Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad as an inspector. He retired a year ago.

On June 24, 1903 he married Edith Lenora Middleton in Ogden.

He was a member of the L.D.S. church and was affiliated with the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen and Woodmen of the World. Surviving are his widow; three sons, Patrolman Ralph Hill of the city police department and Fred L. Hill, Ogden; Arthur Hill, Palo Alto, Calif.; seven grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters; Horace, Lawrence B and Harold E. Hill and Mrs. Hazel Boyle, Ogden.

Sevices will be conducted Staurday at three p.m. at the mortuary, Twenty-fourth at Adams , by Bishiop Thomas L. Checketts of the L.D.S. Third ward. Burial will be in Ogden city Cemetery.

Henry worked for the The Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (reporting mark DRGW), often shortened to Rio Grande or D&RGW, formerly the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, is a defunct U.S. railroad company. The railroad started as a narrow gauge line running south from Denver, Colorado in 1870. It served mainly as a transcontinental bridge line between Denver, and Salt Lake City, Utah. The Rio Grande was also a major origin of coal and mineral traffic.

Henry was a car inspector for the railroad. 

He was baptized into the Mormon church 1892, sealed 1966.
