. L. "Bud" Brain, age 91, died August 28, 1999 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, June 24, 1908, a son of
Fred and Beatrice Coleman Brain. He attended elementary school in Salt
Lake City, graduated from LDS High School and attended the University of
Utah. He served a mission for the LDS Church in Hawaii from 1930-1932.
He also served as a superintendent of three Sunday schools, and on two
high Councils.He married Nell Haycock on September 14, 1939 in the Salt
Lake LDS Temple by President David O. McKay. He was employed by ZCMI and
later was an agent for the Bankers Life Co. In 1944 with his wife he
founded Bud's Duds Men's Clothing Store and enjoyed a favorable
reputation and successful business for 40 years.
He was active in community affairs, serving as
President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Sugarhouse Rotary
Club, and was appointed to serve on the University of Utah
Institutional Council. He received the Merit of Honor Award from the
University of Utah in 1990 and was also honored to serve as a
Past-President of the Bonneville Knife and Fork Club. He loved the
athletic department at the University of Utah and contributed generously
to the Crimson Club and President's Club.
Survived by his wife, Nell, and children: Bonnie
(Bill) Murphy, Jan, Carolyn (Bill) D'Evelyn, Mary Ann (Karl) Tueller and
Robert. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and
sister, Marjorie Owen.
He spent many happy hours in the Teton Basin near
Driggs, Idaho, enjoying his favorite sport of fly fishing. For this
reason, the family suggests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in
memory of him to Teton Valley Land Trust, P. O. Box 247, Driggs, Idaho
83422. This trust is dedicated to the preservation of the land and the
Teton River he loved so much.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday,
September 1, 1999 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive,
where friends may call one hour prior to the services. Interment Wasatch
Lawn Memorial Park.
