George William Brough 1854-1938

George William Brough was born 8 Feb 1854 in Lehi, UT to George Brough and Elizabeth Hudson. He was the first of four children. His father George Brough was married 7 March 1852 on board the ship Ellen Maria. He immigrated from England and ended up living in Spring City, UT. Spring City is a little art colony today east of Provo. George married Jane Elizabeth Crawford 5 January 1874 in SLC, UT. They had 8 children, all born in Spring City. Their 7th child wasVera Brough who is Glen Kroksh's mother.

George W. Brough From an article found in a book Brough, George W., Farmer, stock and sheep-raiser, son of George and Elizabeth was born in Lehi, Utah, Feb 8, 1854. The family came from Yorkshire, England, where they joined the Mormon Church. They came to Utah in 1852, being married while crossing the ocean. They crossed the plains in an ox-train, reaching Salt Lake City in November, and located at Lehi. In 1860 they came to Spring City, among the earliest settlers and received ten acres of land. George and his father took part in the Black Hawk war. Father was postmaster fifteen years; tithing clerk sixteen years and Justice of the Peace. Mother died here May 2, 1882. George was raised to farming, and now owns 153 acres with 1500 head of sheep. In 1895, he was elected a member of the City Council on the Democratic ticket and re-elected in 1897. He was married in Salt Lake City, January 5th, to Jane Elizabeth, daughter of Charles and Martha Crawford, born in Mormon Grove, Mo., June 17, 1855.
